GumboWriters Successful Query Letter Sample #9

Dear Howard,

I spent 7 years in the military, which allowed me to know the inner-workings of what happens behind enemy lines. I saw first-hand the corruption of world powers. Months facing enemy lines can do things to a man. Not knowing if your last breath will truly be your last, if you'll celebrate just one more birthday, nor if you'll ever get to kiss your kids goodnight again, it changes you; changes your perspective. That is why I can say with full-confidence, true evil does exist Howard.

Like a Jim Butcher/Dean Koontz hybrid, The Orange Sky is an urban fantasy novel set in three cities across the present day United States. He looks like an everyday man, but Marcus Blue is one of the most powerful men alive. Fire from his hands can destroy armies and his battles are legendary. He is one of a rare breed called the warlock, one of the last of his kind and he is dying. But he must face one more battle, one more challenge or it will mean the end of the world, as we know it.

The story of Booker was inspired by my feelings of getting older, of realizing that it is not the crazy or stupid things you've done in your life that you end up regretting, but rather, it is the true realization of those things you no longer have the option of trying. The Orange Sky also interweaves the elements of Siren, a young witch, who feels her powers are a curse. She learns to love Marcus and ultimately, they stand together against the enemy.

Howard, I have written 4 novels along the same lines and they say I am a very prolific writer. I find the secret caverns of the underworld and how it interrelates with our world incredibly fascinating. If you would like to take a look at The Orange Sky, please contact me and I would be more than happy to send it to you.
